Dinner for this week has been cancelled until further notice due to a medical emergency in Darter’s household.

I’ll post an update as news comes to hand/foot/paw/claw/manipulatory appendage.

Hello all, once again.

During the September dinner a week and a bit ago, it was suggested that since we have a long weekend coming up at the end of the month, we do a random photo shoot on the Monday (that is, the 28th).

No theme this time, just turn up in whatever costume you like and come along to Darter’s house in Oakford – pose for photos around the garden and in the horse paddocks, or we can wander off to the firetracks to pose with the arum lillies and tree temples.

I’m not sure I’m going to be able to make it to this one so I’m hoping that other camera operators will be able to fill in for me, just in case.

Volunteers, anyone?

Otherwise, I’ll also take this moment to remind you that the next dinner is on the 2nd of October, a mere two and bit weeks from now. Be there, or don’t. I’ll remind you again in about 10 days just in case.

In the meantime, I shall resume loafing and contemplating gardening.

Spring has springed itself upon us once again. Forgive me a moment whilst I mourn the inevitable passing of Winter, along with the cold and wet weather it brings.

Done.

Accompanying the new month is the first Friday – that would be Club Dinner night for the likes of you and I. As last month was a bit of a confused haze, I’m taking a moment to warn you a little earlier.

We shall return to our usual lurk, Kabukis of Northbridge, James Street and likely wander over to Icey Ice for that something that resembles dessert afterwards.

Beyond that, there’s not a lot of news at the moment – there is no JAFWA this weekend so you are freed of responsibility for that much at least. Rest, draw, compose and garden.

If anyone has anything they wish to add, forward here – otherwise, we’ll look forward to seeing you on Friday.

Erky the Curiously Tired This Evening

Good afterlunch, all.

Just a quick email to repeat some of the topics discussed during the dinner on Friday night for those who were unable to attend.

Due to Rebel Empire/Jedi Bootcamp occupying increasing amounts of The Administrator’s attention, and also being moved to a Sunday, it has been decided to cut back cosplay events to only three or four times a year – effectively only Mondays that fall on a long weekend.

Saturday afternoons on non-JAFWA weekends were considered but there are a number of us who still work on that day (or attend other events, such as Westlodge).

Essentially, all planned events are off until the 28th of September – and that will be put to a vote (which theme we will go with, or should we just hold off until next March). A poll will be put up on the club web page in short order.

A side effect of this is that there will be no more workshops for the time being – unless someone wants to volunteer a site for the afternoon.

News, views and opinions are encouraged to be posted here (put [SHENLONG] in the subject line for items to be posted back to the list), on the DeviantArt gallery or the club web page (you’ll need to create an account first, though).

Speaking of the web page, I’m taking nominations and contributions for the preview gallery and other cosplay related but non-Shenlong activities (such as Wai-con or SupaNova). If you’ve a photo or seven that you’re particularly pleased with but have nowhere suitable to post it, forward it here.

So you might have noticed the late cancellation of dinner last Friday. For those of you who didn’t, the Administrators would like to apologise for you having to wander around Northbridge alone on a Friday night.

Accordingly, we are having another stab (or glassing) at the event again this weekend. I was supposed to advise you all of this earlier in the week but with the end of the financial year approaching, all I want to do is leave the office and hide away in my cave for the evening.

For those of you who can make it along on Friday, welcome – for those of you who can’t, we will catch up with you after Supernova.

Remember that JAFWA may be in the Haydn Williams theatre again this week so remember to bring your soft cushions.

Now, my retrogaming fixation is demanding fulfillment again so I shall resume playing 20 year old video games.

Bleepings, one and many.

Its been a bit of a while since I last assaulted the frontpage with my inconsistent ramblings. The reason for this I’ll get to mediumly.

First item on the agenda is to remind you that its coming up to the second Friday of the month, meaning dinner time at Kabukis in Northbridge. For those brave enough to willing the Winter evening chills, we will be attending our usual lurk at 18:30 on the 12th. See you then and please do SMS Darter or myself if you’re unable to make it.

Now, we’ve already reached June and haven’t yet managed to organise an event – between Swancon, Supernova, calendar clashes and the like, its been a rather distracted year – but its not quite over yet. I have a few tasks that will be summoning my attention over the coming weeks so its probable that I won’t be able to attend the photo shoots for a while (or if I can, I’ll be too tired and distracted to swing a camera around). Tasks including, but not limited to, preparing material for when I attend the Syntax Party in Melbourne later in the year and a few other tasks beyond my control and controlling my beyond.

Accordingly, I’m looking for a volunteer to assume photographic duties during my incapacitation. Someone who is not just willing and able, but prepared to attend each of the events that they promise they will as it may not be much of an event with no one to pose for. Although it has been put forward by Mistijen that we just try out a casual event of randomness without photographers for those who like costuming but not posing for pictures.

Its an idea we can kick around at the dinner, anyways.

I will still be available for organising the mailing list and mucking out the website, however.

Another topic of discussion is the current disarray of the schedule, since we are already three events behind. We will need input on what events to continue with and what themes should be scrapped or held over until next year.

Finally, Mistijen and I would like to get some feedback on the redesigned website. There’s still work to be done, but we’ve been more concentrating on making sure the core works before we worry about the decorations (such as the forum and sample gallery).

I’ve just added this cool avatar plugin where you can upload your own avatar for your profile account for your comments or posts!

I’ve also made some adjustments to the them so it looks cleaner and you know where a new entry starts and stop… the layout I had before was continuous and was running into each other…

Lastly but still important I’ve made a note to Kris, the shenlongcc editor that we need an appropriate background for this template. I’m open to suggestions and if there are too many ideas we might consider a poll.

Good afterdinner, all.

I regret that I am the bearer of bad news – the gothic lolita cosplay has been cancelled due to low attendance.

And low atelevendance as well.

It would seem that this weekend was not a good time for the majority of our regulars and the administration received a number of last minute cancellations yesterday and today.  And it seemed pointless to have an event with only a few people and no snails for the ducks.

This isn’t to say that we’ve given up on the idea, we’ve just needed to push it back later in the year.

A couple of other items came up during the dinner (and nothing to do with the food, I assure you).  By popular vote, the dinner’s have been moved back to the second Friday of the month (taking place after the cosplay weekend).  This also means that we’ll be meeting again this Friday, the 8th.

This month’s workshop slash random event slash LAN gathering has also been brought forward a week due to The Administrator having to attend a horse show on the 31st.

Finally, the proposed July cosplay weekend has also been canned due to the advent of Supernova (and since its July the 4th, we’ll also be on watch for drunken Americans).

Finally the more, Mistijen has now added an avatar function to the website so anyone posting a comment or news item can have their unique avatar included so its a little more obvious who is making the post.
